Liberation Through Reproductive Justice

Integrative Postpartum wellness Program

53% of maternal deaths happen postpartum. We are working to widen access to holistic integrative postpartum doula services. The Doula For The People Postpartum Doula Program connects underserved community members with In-home and virtual Postpartum doula care, nutritional support, educational resources, culturally centered community support groups, and lactation consulting.

uprooting systemic oppression

BIPOC birthing people are 3 times more likely to die from maternal health-related complications. Implicit bias, racial injustice, and systemic oppression are largely contributing to negative maternal health outcomes in the United States. We work to provide community members with culturally congruent care and examine maternal health through a holistic lens. Food sovereignty and mental health are some of our top priorities when developing community programming.

Harnessing the power of nature-based healing

At Doula For The People, we believe that connection to the natural world is an essential part of healing and thriving. We integrate nature-based practices into our programming, whether through outdoor sanctuary circles, grounding rituals, or community gatherings on the land, because time in nature has the power to calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and foster deeper connection. Studies show that exposure to natural environments consistently lowers both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, while also reducing stress and anxiety. These benefits are especially powerful in the perinatal period, where emotional and physical well-being directly shape health outcomes. By weaving these practices into our work, we honor the earth as a partner in care and create spaces where our community can access its restorative power.

Epowering Birthworkers & Community Healers

Doula For The People is committed to strengthening the skills, resilience, and connections of those who hold our communities through birth and healing work. Our collective of 25 doulas uplifts one another through shared learning, mentorship, and collaboration, creating a network of support that extends into the communities we serve. Through our Pollination Station Workshops, we exchange wisdom and practical tools that help doulas thrive in their practice. Our enrichment workshops and professional trainings offer ongoing opportunities to deepen knowledge, sharpen skills, and explore new approaches to care. Alongside these programs, we host doula-focused events that build community, foster solidarity, and expand access to resources. By investing in the development of birth workers and community healers, we’re nurturing a collective ecosystem of care that grows stronger together.

“39.4% of LOW-INCOME Birthing people are food Insecure or marginally food insecure”

At Doula For The People, we recognize that food is medicine, and access to nourishing meals is essential for postpartum healing. There are birthing people in our community that face food insecurity, or live in food deserts where nutrient-rich, locally sourced produce is difficult to access. These challenges are compounded in the postpartum period, when the demands of caring for a newborn make it difficult to find the time and energy to consistently nourish oneself. Through our meal delivery program, we provide carefully prepared, healing-centered foods designed to replenish the body, support lactation, and promote recovery after birth. By addressing food insecurity, barriers to fresh foods, and the realities of postpartum care, we make nourishment more accessible and affirm our belief that every birthing person deserves to be cared for, nourished, and supported in their transition into parenthood.
